A new sea urchin ranching concept — 'Urchinomics' — could be about to change the way several species' value chains operate, according to the company behind it.

Put simply, the system removes urchins from kelp forests -- where they are doing damage to ecosystems — and puts them in tanks, where they are fed a more nutritious diet than they generally receive in the wild.
